A tribute to Vincent Marcon

Portrait Vincent Marcon

Vincent was a passionate and committed man. In the field, he was a dedicated, curious and respectful archaeologist.

His research in Pakistani Baluchistan, his meticulous work on lithic industries and his invaluable expertise left their mark on the archaeological missions to which he contributed and which he led.

More recently, he also made a valuable contribution to the excavations at Étiolles, Pincevent and Ormesson, where his dedicated involvement was much appreciated, both scientifically and technically, but even more so in human terms. Indeed, beyond his knowledge and skills, it was his humanity that touched us all. In the field, he was a warm presence, an attentive ear, a work companion you could count on. Our dealings with him were sincere and profound, marked by honesty and compassion.

He was always the first to welcome newcomers, and his relationships with students and colleagues were marked by empathy and human warmth. He was one of those people you could count on: available, willing to listen and ready to help without ever trying to show off. Vincent was really a nice guy, very sensitive, full of delicacy and attentive to everyone! He knew how to humbly make his knowledge and know-how available to everyone.

Vincent was a competent and rigorous collaborator, but above all an empathetic person, available and generous in his contributions, always ready to share and pass on. His commitment and sincerity were perceptible in his eyes, which bore witness to deep integrity and great generosity.

What we all remember about him and wish to pass on to Cécile and his children, whom he loved so much, and to all those who loved him, is the image of a man of integrity, sensitivity and profound humanity.

His work, his kindness and his commitment will leave an indelible mark on our memories and our hearts. We pay tribute to him today with sadness, but also with gratitude for everything he gave us.

Goodbye Vincent, and thank you for everything!
