Bone, Tools, and Traditions. 15th WBRG meeting Paris, May 13-17, 2024

The proceedings of the 15^th International Meeting of the Worked Bone Research Group (WBRG), held in Paris in May 2024, with the collaboration of several members of the unit.  Manufactured tools and remains of hard materials of animal origin are at the intersection of many technological and economical fields of activity. Its various components provide a wealth of information about societies of the past, whether prehistoric, historical, or even contemporary. The 15th meeting of the ICAZ Worked Bone Research Group, held in Paris from May 13 to May 17, 2024, as part of its biannual meetings, reflects the growing interest in these objects among the international community of specialists over the past decade. The meeting brought together nearly 180 researchers from 23 countries across Europe, the Americas, Asia and Africa. Seventy-three papers contributed to eight thematic sessions focusing on methodological, technical, economic, and social aspects.
Nearly half of these contributions are published in the present volume thanks to the support of the Société Préhistorique Française, as part of its “Séances”. They reflect the diversity of subjects, time frames, and analytical perspectives addressed during the Worked Bone Research Group meeting and highlight both the vitality of current research and the ongoing potential for new insights into human interactions with bone materials over time.
