Neolithic occupation of caves and shelters by Catherine Perlès (Emeritus Professor UPN, UMR 8068)

VIsuel du séminaire Habiter le monde

As part of the ‘Living in the World: Choices, Practices and Impacts’ seminar series (ED 395 – École doctorale Espaces, Temps, Cultures):

A network node: occupying space in prehistoric times; the example of the Bouyssonie cave and the ‘early Lower Magdalenian’ by Vincent Delvigne (CNRS, UMR 8068)

Neolithic occupation of caves and shelters by Catherine Perlès (Emeritus Professor UPN, UMR 8068)

Karstic landscapes that people chose not to inhabit in the Middle Bronze Age by Sébastien Manem (UMR 8068)

This series of seminars will look at how people chose to live in their environment, domestic practices and their impact on nature. What criteria were used to select a natural area and what adaptation strategies were implemented? How do the practices of these spaces reflect the social structures and dynamics of the communities? These multidisciplinary questions will be addressed over a long period of time (from the earliest prehistoric times to the present day) and in a variety of regions and environments. We will seek to shed light on the reasons underlying the ways in which people inhabit the world (economic, social, symbolic, etc.) and the diversity or complementarity of human settlements in the landscape. An approach to temporality, including stability and mobility, the rhythms and cycles of human occupation, will examine the relationship between man and his environment.
