A 12,000-year-old clay figurine of a woman and a goose marks symbolic innovations in Southwest Asia

Este artículo presenta una figurilla de arcilla de 12 000 años de antigüedad procedente del suroeste de Asia que retrasa la aparición de varias innovaciones fundamentales en la expresión simbólica humana. Este objeto es tanto la representación naturalista más antigua de una mujer en el suroeste de Asia como la figurilla más antigua que representa una interacción entre humanos y animales. Cabe destacar que la interacción representada no está relacionada con la caza, sino que presenta una escena mitológica entre un humano y un pájaro que concuerda con un sistema de creencias animistas. Por último, la figurilla da testimonio de innovaciones artísticas, como la manipulación del volumen de la arcilla y la luz para crear perspectiva, lo que presagia técnicas que se popularizaron en el Neolítico temprano posterior.
