Early humans and the sea in Europe: Evidence of shellfish exploitation ca. 300,000 years ago?

Les recherches sur les moyens de subsistance des premiers hominidés s’intéressent de plus en plus à l’exploitation des diverses ressources alimentaires préhistoriques, y compris les ressources côtières, et à ses implications sur l’évolution des adaptations technologiques, comportementales et écologiques. Cet article présente les résultats obtenus sur le site MIS 9-8,5 de Quarto delle Cinfonare (Latium, Italie). Des expériences et des analyses lithiques microscopiques ont révélé des traces d’usure liées à la transformation de crustacés, en plus de la transformation de carcasses d’animaux, ce qui suggère que les premiers hominidés consommaient probablement, au moins occasionnellement, des ressources alimentaires côtières en plus des aliments terrestres il y a 300 000 ans.
